Wasswa will replace Sempigi at Mbarara City Football Club

Godfrey Ibrahim Wasswa is set to strengthen the backroom technical staff of Ugandan Premier League side Mbarara City Football Club.

Wasswa, a CAF ‘B’ licensed tactician, will replace Sadick Sempigi at the club also dubbed Ankole Lions.

A former striker who retired early due to a lingering knee injury, Wasswa now serves the beautiful game as a coach.

His last job saw him at Kampala regional team Black Star Masanafu and Busiro Royals as head coach.

Wasswa rose to prominence during the 2004 Masaza Cup championship where he led Gomba Lions to the title as he also won the golden boot for scoring 13 goals to his name.

He also coached Gomba twice as chief tactician in 2005 and 2007 as deputy in 2014 and 2015.

Wasswa was also the head coach of Kooki Ssaza (2016), Gomba Kanoni Red Lions (2007) and Kira United (2019).

Sempigi has resigned as assistant manager at Arua Hill and joined Mbarara City for the umpteenth time.

He officially started his coaching duties over the weekend (pending the official unveiling) alongside his new partner, Wasswa.

Mbarara City have undergone a complete metamorphosis since gaining Ugandan Premier League status five years ago, as a series of managers have come and gone.

Sempigi in particular returns for the third time in the technical role and he will have all the power in your hands to plot for the continued existence of this club whose sole owner is South Mbarara City legislator, Hon. Mwine Mpaka.

The club will face Six O’clock in the Round of 16 of the Uganda Stanbic Cup 2021-2022 on Sunday 23rd January 2022 at the Kizinda playground in Bushenyi.

The away match against Six O’clock will virtually be Sempigi and Wasswa’s first tests of the new job at Mbarara City in preparation for the second round of the 2021-2022 UPL season.
