CHAMPAGNE, ill. – Illinois Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach Nadalie Walch announced Thursday that it would hire the former Illini Ross Thompson for the position of assistant coach.
“I am extremely happy to welcome Ross Thompson to join my staff here in Illinois,” Walsh said. “Throughout the accelerated search, I was specifically looking for a candidate with a strong desire to be in Illinois, impeccable character, positive energy, and strong technical skills. Ross ticks all of those boxes. From the very beginning of my journey when I came to the University of Illinois 6 years ago, Ross ThompsonHis leadership and dedication to excellence as a student-athlete have always stood out to me. He understands my vision and my priority to create the safest, healthiest and most complete experience for our student-athletes. I look forward to welcoming him and his championship spirit to his alma mater with the women’s gymnastics program.”
Thompson competed with the Orange and Blue from 2016 to 2019, where he was a two-time Academic All-American, Big Ten high bar runner-up, co-captain, Team Spirit Award recipient and scholarship recipient. 2018 CGA First Team All-American. -Athlete.
“I had the privilege of joining the Illini family as an athlete,” said Thompson. “Now it’s an honor to come home as a coach. I’ve always enjoyed the strong culture and community support at Illini. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to contribute to this community, once again, alongside these incredible staff.
