The UCYBS organization had a massive turnout every night during the three-day camp, with 82 campers on Monday and an average of over 80 children the following days. Campers had the opportunity to hear from and work with B-UHS Softball Head Coach Levi Bender and B-UHS Baseball Head Coach Adam Squires, as well as many of their assistants. Many familiar faces were in attendance, all Upshur County baseball and softball fans, as notable B-UHS alumni, including the recent engagement of Lady Pioneer from Glenville State University. Shelby McDaniels and West Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Bobcats All-American pitcher Alli Robinson. Each offered their own unique perspectives on the game of baseball and softball to young campers, encouraging them to pursue individual improvement through their passion for the game. A host of current B-UHS baseball and softball players also volunteered their time to work with the next generation of players to don blue and white.
Overall, with a ton of hard work from UCYBS President Jordan Westfall, Vice President Luke Payne and Secretary John Egress, the camp went perfectly, with massive attendance and lots of fun. The camp officially ended with snow cones and a sliding and sliding exercise, which was a great way to let loose after a three-day grind. The management of UCYBS would like to sincerely thank the group of volunteers who made the camp possible. Of course, a special thank you to all the current and former softball and baseball players at Buckhannon-Upshur High School, as well as the other teenagers for helping these kids learn the game of baseball. UCYBS also appreciates the volunteers, including those who worked in the concessions and managed the registration process to make this camp a reality.
