Helped Wanted: Lenoir V County Public Health Treatment Assistant

Salary range: $26,984 – $41,059

General description of tasks:

The primary objective of this position is to function as part of a team responsible for performing a variety of administrative and technical duties to accomplish the following: enroll patients; preparing medical records; greet the audience; determine the patient’s financial responsibility for the charges; reporting patient encounters; submit visit information for third party billing; collect fees from patients; meet the standard; and preparing outgoing mail.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. The employee in this position should have a thorough knowledge of office work procedures and practices.

  2. Employee must have the knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and office terminology to compose and/or proofread encounter forms, Medicaid cards, insurance cards, and credentials.

  3. The employee must have a thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and mathematical procedures and their application in this work environment.

  4. The employee must have the skills to communicate effectively with customers, other organizations and other staff.

  5. The employee must have the ability to review and process information to determine actions or compliance with laws, rules or regulations applicable to our service.

  6. The employee must be able to interpret program content to make decisions and explain our program policies.

  7. The employee must have the ability to exercise judgment, interpret and explain policies, and respond independently to inquiries in order to coordinate and disseminate information.

  8. General knowledge of data entry principles and excellent public-facing skills are required to obtain information from adolescents, low-educated patient population, etc.

  9. Knowledge of computers and various types of computer software is required. Working with a variety of office equipment (telephones, fax machines and photocopiers) is also a required skill.

  10. Good oral and written communication skills are important.

  11. The ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other government employees is essential.

  12. The ability to work under time constraints and other demands and to coordinate work assignments with others is required.

  13. The ability to deal extensively with the public in a professional and courteous manner is crucial to this position.

  14. This employee understands the ethics of privacy as required by North Carolina General Statutes and Lenoir County Health Department Policies and Procedures and HIPAA guidelines. Violation of customer information could result in litigation.

  15. All appointments will be made according to the program criteria established by my medical staff. HIPAA training is conducted throughout the year to remind staff of HIPAA policies and procedures. More specific formation occurs when a policy changes and directly affects appointment scheduling.

Minimum training required:

A high school diploma and three years of office experience including computer/typing experience or a two-year secretarial or business administration degree including computer courses are the minimum requirements for entry level or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of on-the-job training will be required to become proficient in all job responsibilities of this position with the above training or experience.
