Erie Hires New Deputy City Administrator – Colorado Hometown Weekly

The City of Erie recently hired Melissa Wiley as the new Deputy City Administrator. His first day was May 3.

Wiley will oversee nearly half of the city’s department directors and will be responsible for various projects such as the city’s plans to return to in-person services after the pandemic.

According to a press release, Wiley is committed to improving the government experience for all.

She previously worked as a director of Peak Academy, the nationally recognized innovation and analysis program for local government and other organizations. She has worked with hundreds of local governments across the country to lead innovative and effective local governments.

Wiley has also served as Director of Policy and Communications for the Colorado Association for School Health Care, Assistant to the Director of the Department of International Studies at Drexel University, and Research Assistant to the US Economic Advisor in North Ireland.

“My life’s mission is to restore residents’ confidence in public service,” Wiley said in the statement. “I am delighted to be joining the City of Erie and look forward to leading this vibrant and beautiful community. I am dedicated to efficient, effective and compassionate local government. “

Wiley rose to the top of a competitive application process that included more than 100 applicants, the statement said.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and holds an MPA from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied with Fels Schools and Wharton and did internships with the US State Department. and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

In her spare time, Wiley hosts interactive sessions for kids on how to overcome bullying through storytelling.

“Melissa’s experience leading innovation and change in a large neighboring municipality was critical to our decision to offer her the job,” City Administrator Malcolm Fleming said in the statement. “His technical expertise, his passion for public service and his caring personality make him an ideal member of our management team.”
