Srinagar, Mar 7: ACB traps and arrests an engineer working as a technical assistant, Block Development Office, Arina, Bandipora and his associate for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the plaintiff.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complainant from a resident of Sumlar village, Bandipora, alleging that he and his father had carried out works in their village of sumlar, Bandipora district, titled “Development of a playground by through earth cutting and construction of retaining walls” under the Arina Bandipora block development office.
The concerned technical assistant of the Arina block development office, namely Showkat Ahmad, has only released part of his rupee bill payment. 4,10,000/- and that he demands a bribe of Rs. 20,000/- for the release of the remaining amount.
“The Complainant also indicated that he and his father repeatedly asked the relevant officer Showkat Ahmad to release the remaining amount. The officer did not agree to release the remaining amount from the plaintiff without getting a bribe of Rs. 20,000.
“In these circumstances, the complainant approached ACB with his complaint and requested the necessary measures against the agent concerned.
The ACB registered the case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 as a prima facie case established in a complaint against the accused civil servant Manzoor Ahmad, the Technical Assistant to the Department of Rural Development ( REW) Block Arina Bandipura has opened investigations into the case.
Immediately after the case was registered, a trap team was also formed led by an officer from DySP Rank and independent witnesses, the team caught the accused officer Showkat Ahmad with his reel Irfan yousaf while demanding and by accepting a bribe from the plaintiff and the two were immediately arrested on the spot after completing the necessary legal formalities and the amount of the bribe was also recovered in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
