2023: Meet the “daring godfathers” of young Kwara

As political activity in Kwara State intensifies, an interesting feature is the range of young people who have shown interest in competing for the various seats up for grabs by 2023.

The majority of these not-too-young-to-run apostles who have shown an interest in stepping into the arena and challenging the status quo are in the 30-40 age bracket.

While some of them aren’t new to the state’s political history, this is the first time they’ve decided to throw their hats in the ring.

While some political observers are of the view that moving forward might be difficult as these new gladiators lack the deep pockets and resources to advance in an overmonetized political system, others have found their decision to challenge and to dare the system an exciting scenario that will further steal the political trajectory of the state after the Otoge episode in 2015.

Some of them further underlined the condemnation by announcing their arrival in political parties outside the PDP and the APC.

Such a decision, although depriving them of the support and finances of the major and prominent political “godfathers” of Kwara today such as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, among others, these young people bet about what many have described as “the era of popular candidates against political parties or patronage.

However, there are contestations under the platform of the two main parties – the PDP and the APC, which are not really followers of the Abdulrazaqs and Sarakis but are only trying to use the party structure to achieve their ambition. policy and also have sufficient resources. spend.

While some midshipmen also bank on the support of these sponsors and are even their foot soldiers, their decision to bolster the odds given their age has been a talking point in state political circles. But how far they can go despite the support of their sponsors remains to be seen.
